Smoking Ban In Marlboro Country
By admin on Mar 10, 2009 in Smoking News
The home state of Marlboro and the world’s largest cigarette factory is banning most smoking in restaurants and bars.Virginia Governor Tim Kaine signed a bill Monday that generally restricts smoking to separate rooms that have their own ventilation. It takes effect Dec 1st. Kaine had been working for years for a total ban on smoking in all restaurants, but compromised with lawmakers in the bill that passed last month.
The measure also exempts private clubs and open-air outdoor areas of bars.
The first substantial tobacco curb is remarkable, however, in a state that began growing tobacco at Jamestown 400 years ago and is home to Philip Morris and its Marlboro cigarette factory, the world’s largest.
